One of the most common diseases that any man can suffer, although it tends to occur more frequently in men between 14 and 35 years old, is epididymitis about which today we are going to know a great deal of information that can be very useful. .

What is epididymitis?

Epididymitis is the inflammation that occurs in the epididymis, which is a cylinder located at the back of the testicle in which sperm are stored and transported.

In some specific cases, an inflammation of the testicle can also occur in which case it is called orchitis.

As we said before, although this disease can occur in any male, it tends to occur more frequently in males who are approximately between 14 and 35 years old.

Symptoms of epididymitis

Although epididymitis is a disease of the penis, the first symptoms of this may be a mild fever, chills and a few hours later a feeling of heaviness in the testicular area.

This area will become increasingly sensitive to pressure, and we will feel severe pain most of the time.

In addition to the symptoms that we have already reviewed, we could also suffer the following symptoms;

  • Appearance of blood in semen in small amounts
  • Constant discomfort in the pelvis or lower abdomen
  • Fever, in most cases not very high
  • Discharge from the urethra or what is the same, the hole at the end of the penis
  • Tumor near the testicle
  • Pain, sometimes severe, during ejaculation
  • Swollen scrotum, most of the time very painful
  • Pain or burning during urination
  • Pain in the testicles, which will increase during bowel movements
  • The inguinal region on the affected side will swell and be very sensitive, causing pain.

Causes

Although urinary tract infections in men are quite rare, they exist and in most cases it is caused by a bacterial infection, although in reality there are many other causes that can eventually lead to epididymitis. Here we show you some of them;

  • Sexually transmitted infections (STIs). These infections are usually the most common causes of epididymitis in young men who are sexually active.
  • Other infections In addition to sexually transmitted infections, any male can suffer from this disease caused by another bacterial infection.
  • Some types of medicines. Although it may seem strange, one of the causes that can cause epididymitis is the intake of medications, among which is for example amiodarone
  • Urine present in the epididymis
  • Surgery
  • Tubercolosis
