How to ask for a salary increase?

pay rise

After much effort and dedication, it is natural to aspire a reward translated into a salary improvement. Sometimes, the salary increase comes as recognition by the company itself, aware of the human asset they have among their ranks.

However, in most cases this is not the case. And that's when it touches pluck up courage and ask for a well-deserved raise.

In principle, it is an action that must be carried out with a cool head. You have to draw up a strategy and carry it out step by step.

Some guidelines for asking for a raise

Everyone in the company is expendable. That is something that must be absolutely clear. Now, the company must know that the level of commitment, dedication and professionalism offered by that employee who is requesting a salary increase will hardly be able to be found in another person.

Be clear about the successes and contributions to the company. Routine can cause many things to "normalize" and not be considered in their proper measure. If there are outstanding achievements, if all the goals were met, if contributions were made beyond the ordinary, it is well worth making a list and showing it as an argument. Good things must be noted.

You have to study the market. Each worker must consider himself as a provider of a service and see his employer as a customer who pays him for it. If the salary and remuneration are below what the market is setting, there is room to request an improvement.

"I have offers ..." This is one of the most used "techniques". If you are going to resort to it, it is because the offer is real, since one of two things will happen: increase in salary or dismissal.

But above all, you must give the impression of a mature and intelligent person. The request for a raise should not be viewed as a mere whim. It is an acknowledgment, also an incentive, but never show it as blackmail.
