What is volleyball

Volleyball Features

It is a team sport that is made up of 6 members. These two teams face each other on a pitch with different formations. Each team is on one side of the court that is divided by a net over which the ball must pass from one part to another without touching it or going under it.

To score points and lead such a guy to victory, it is necessary that the ball touches the ground of the opponent's court or that it goes outside the lines of the court, having been touched last by a player from the other team.

How to play volleyball

We are going to write all the characteristics and rules of the game. For this we are going to divide the most important points.

Court

The court is the basic in this type of game. It is what refers to the field. It measures 18 × 9 meters and must have a free area of at least 3 meters around it. It is divided into two fields by the central line on which a net is placed. The top of the net must be located at a height of 2.43 meters above the center line when men play and at a height of 2.24 meters when women play.

In turn, each of the two fields into which the court is completely divided is divided into two areas. On the one hand we have the attack area that is delimited by the central line and a line placed 3 meters from it. This line is called the attack line. On the other hand, we have the defense area. This area is delimited by the attack line and the end line of the field.

Players and their position on the field of play

As we mentioned before, there must be 6 players on each field at all times. All players except the Libero must go through all positions on the field. That is, they must be aware of both the attack and the defense. Once the serve has been played, the rest of the players can move around the entire surface of the field and the free zone. It is in these moments of play where there is no need for a formation to be saved.

Obviously, the better the training and structure of the players on the field of play, the better the quality of the game and the preparation for both attack and defense and the organization of the team. During the serve the players must maintain the position that has been designated by the rotation. These positions do not establish any minimum distance between one player and another. Throughout a set each player can be substituted for another only once. The player who left the field may return to the game provided it is to rejoin the position of his substitute. Once he has been substituted, he cannot be substituted until the next set.

Rotation in volleyball

The playing field is divided into 6 zones divided into 3 attack zones and 3 defense zones. At the start of the match, each player must be assigned to a zone in which they must be at the time of service. As we have mentioned before, once the service has been made, the players do not have any assigned position but can be placed anywhere on the field within their field.

When a team does not serve and scores a point (that is, it recovers the service) the members must rotate clockwise. In this way, all the players end up going through all the positions of the field both attack and defense. For example, players can go from zone 2 to zone 1 and so on.

All rotations are mandatory and must always be respected during the moment of service.

The bookcase

Volleyball

Earlier we mentioned a type of player who should not respect the same rules as everyone else. He is called the libero. He is a purely defensive player and has a series of limitations compared to the rest of the team. In this sport, the libero is the one who can substitute any player who is in the defense area and you can come and go to replace them as many times as you need. However, he can never substitute for a player who is in the attack zone.

If you watch a volleyball game, you can quickly recognize the book. This is because the player wears a different outfit from the rest. There can only be one Libero per team on the field of play. In general, the Libero cannot perform the following actions:

  • Be the team captain or the game captain
  • Take
  • Complete a stroke if the ball is totally above the net. This is also called auction
  • Once the serve has been made, he can move around the field but has certain restrictions in the attack zone as they are, they cannot block or make blocking attempts and if they pass a finger to another teammate, he will not be able to attack if the ball is over the net.

Unlike other sports, volleyball does not have a duration. The match ends when one of the two teams wins 3 sets. As you can see, it is a very interesting sport although not as famous as other sports such as soccer or basketball.

I hope that with this information you can learn more about volleyball.
