Myths and truths of Viagra (I)

With the launch of Viagra A few years ago, various myths have been told about the use of the little blue pill. Next, we will present the first part of this installment, where we will list the myths and truths of the consumption of Viagra.

Myth 1: «Viagra acts on the brain»
FALSE:
It does not act on neurons or brain neurotransmitters. Its almost specific place of action is in the corpora cavernosa of the penis, inhibiting an enzyme present there (phosphodiesterase V) which is the one that inhibits the erective mechanism. Being an inhibitor of the inhibitor, it turns out to be a facilitator with what the erection is achieved faster and maintains it for a longer time.

Myth 2: "It can be taken up to 1 time a day"
TRUE:
It can be taken up to once a day. This does not mean that it should be taken every day unless you want it to. In works that we have carried out in our country we see that the average use rate is 1 to 2 per week. It is not recommended to take it more than once a day or in conjunction with intracavernous drugs (injections given into the penis produce an erection).

Myth 3: "Is it an aphrodisiac?"
FALSE:
If we think that an aphrodisiac (name that comes from the goddess Aphrodite) is a substance that would directly and frankly provoke sexual desire, I have to say that it is not. Now, if a man, thanks to Viagra, improves his sexual function altered by an erection difficulty, we will also see that it improves, indirectly, his sexual desire, raising his self-esteem. A patient told me: "I feel like I am a man again, I feel like I have a penis." In this sense, it could give greater confidence and security, increasing the levels of arousal and sexual desire indirectly.

Myth 4: "Increases desire and excitement"
PARTLY TRUE:
This connects with the previous statement: the man will need to initiate his sexual stimulation and arousal response for sildenafil to take effect. But there are also men who gain confidence with its use and, by not failing, increase their desire and desire to have sex, which they previously avoided.

Myth 5: "Taking Viagra does not increase the number of orgasms"
TRUE:
Viagra acts on the erectile mechanism and not on ejaculation or orgasm. Now, if the effect that a man can have a longer encounter with his partner in this way, perhaps he can have more orgasms, but it is not a direct consequence of sildenafil.

Myth 6: "It's a free sale"
FALSE:
It is a prescription drug, but it does not need to be duplicated, nor does the patient have to sign anything when they go to the pharmacy or show their documents, as I have heard once said.

Myth 7: "It should not be taken with alcohol and with meals"
TRUE:
Actually, it would be convenient to take it on an empty stomach, for two reasons: a) when there is food in the stomach, gastric transit to the intestine is delayed and if that person has eaten a copious meal with greater reason, b) fatty foods inhibit absorption of sildenafil almost 40%. On the other hand, it is not very convenient to have intercourse immediately after having eaten, especially in men over 40. With alcohol there is no real contraindication but rather a prevention: alcoholic beverages tend to lower blood pressure and this can be enhanced by the joint use with this medicine, and with others as well. Let us remember the great Bukowsky: “if you want to drink, drink; but if you want to make love, drop the bottle. " And the Californian writer did not know Viagra. Let's not forget that more than two glasses of wine or two cans of beer can go from a pleasant sensation to something close to toxic.

Myth 8: "Increases the size of the penis"
FALSE:
This is something that does not have sustenance like those who sell suction pumps for "penile elongation" (true scam). Sildenafil increases penile rigidity and maintains an erection for longer, but from there to maintain that it increases the size is a fantasy that does not make sense.

Myth 9: «Avoid the need for foreplay and act the same without excitement»
FALSE:
In no way does it prevent pre-penetration games, on the contrary it allows us to work with patients who have a limited and poor sexual life so that they enjoy and extend these times even more, thus enriching the encounter.

Myth 10: "Exists in cookies and nasal spray"
FALSE:
Although sildenafil could be used as a nasal spray or in sublingual tablets, there is only one oral presentation in tablets (the famous "blue pill"). The cookie thing, which was published in a newspaper, is the product of the fiction of a bakery.
