Martin Miller's presents "The Perfect Gin Tonic"

Nowadays gins are so fashionable, that they come out even from under the stones, I wanted to make a special mention of Martin Miller's, since the other day we were in an online tasting (yes, strange as it sounds) knowing the secrets of this gin and tasting, by the hand of Eduardo Barrios, -Martin Miller's brand ambassador-, «The Perfect Gin Tonic». I consider myself a very fan of gins, I like all kinds: fruity, very dry, aromatic, etc. The truth is that the trick is knowing how to mix the gin with the elements that suit you best both gin and tonic.

Among the types of gins that exist, Martin Miller's is a London dry, which is an unsweetened, dry, often aromatic gin and obviously, as the name suggests, British-produced, like the vast majority of the market.

Martin Miller's is traditionally distilled, in phases, with the particularity that it has the purity of the water of the springs of Iceland (possibly one of the purest waters in the world), when almost all the London Dry use British springs. Remember that the purity of the water is essential for a good gin.

Martin Miller's recipe consists of 8 ingredients: Tuscan juniper berries, cassia bark, cinnamon bark, coriander, lemon zest, licorice root, nutmeg and bitter orange peel.

It is curious that many people still do not know this gin when it was the first gin called "Premium" that was launched on the market and the one that Spirits has the most awards to its credit.

And now that I have told you about this roll, let's get to the practical, what we could learn in the tasting on how to prepare the «Perfect Gin Tonic».

Ingredients

  • Martin Miller's Gin
  • Schweppes Tonic (or a premium Schweppes like Orange Blossom and Lavender)
  • Juniper berries
  • Lima
  • Ice (the bigger the better)

Do not forget

Keeping the Martin Miller's tonic and bottle in the refrigerator, it is essential that the gin has a good temperature when cold. Don't forget the braided spoon and the peeler either, it may seem like bullshit to you but if you want to prepare a good gin they are essential.

Preparation

Fill the ice ball cup well, up to the top, even that the ice peaks protrude from the cup (common measure: 6 solid blocks). First of all, what we must do is cool the glass well, stirring the ice well until we notice that the glass gets very cold.

Once we have the glass very cold, if the ice has released liquid (it does not have why, it depends on the quality of the ice) we remove that water. Then, we serve the gin (not too much, if we go over the gin, as much as we like it loaded, we will be causing an effect too much alcohol and the digestion and the taste of the Gin Tonic will be worse). The perfect amount is 1/4 of Gin and 3/4 of Tonic.

Once the gin is served, we place 3 juniper berries pressing them a little, without breaking them, and, with the peeler, we place a twist from Lima. Then, We serve the tonic using the braided spoon, essential so that the tonic does not lose gas. The key is that while you drink the glass you continue to see gas bubbles in the glass until at least 15-20 minutes later, that means that the tonic has not lost its carbon dioxide (gas).

Ideally, with this combination, let it "marinate" for at least 30 seconds without stirring anything at all, so the elements will combine creating "the perfect gin and tonic."

Remember to drink in moderation.
