Longines GrandeVitesse, dethroning a myth.

I like the breaths of fresh air, more when they are focused on shaking, revolutionizing and irremediably contesting a plot of land a priori already undisputedly occupied, and this Longines Grande Vitesse he is willing to do so.

Appears to discuss a specific market niche until now monopolized by Tag Heuer, specifically for its well-known Carrera, which is an emblem not only of the brand itself, but also from the wonderful fusion between the most elegant watchmaking and the tremendously sporty spirit of the motor world.

In the first instance, it is not an easy task for anyone, but if we count the carelessness and pasotism with which Tag has been treating the entire Carrera series (not Grand Carrera, be careful) for a while, limiting himself to promoting marketing in detriment of advances in the pieces themselves; and we add that your competitor is one of the oldest watchmaking houses in the history of watchmaking, which has returned with an unbeatable value for money in its products, things already look very different.

And it is that Longines has taken care of every detail of this piece to reach all types of audiences: it offers 3 different dial colors, such as black, chocolate brown and soleil silver , which can be combined in turn with rubber, armys or leather, with each possible result being better than the previous one and vice versa. All models are built, how could it be otherwise, in a 316L steel case (commonly known as surgical steel) fitted with a sapphire crystal and an aluminum graduated tachymeter bezel, and as in most of these cases, resistant to 100 meters.

But here not only aesthetics have been taken care of. To complete the task, Longines has equipped the piece with the most reliable and widely used automatic chronographic mechanism on the market, the ETA Valjoux 7750, adding own terminationThis movement is shown on the back of the watch, being protected by a crystal (also made of sapphire, of course), which allows you to contemplate the more than acceptable customization made on it. (special attention to the finish of the bridges, it is sublime).

If to all this we add that the model is offered in two sizes, 42 and 44 millimeters (the latter more recent, with GMT complication), we have a elegant, sporty, timeless design, and most importantly given the times, within the reach of anyone who wants to consider it. Tremble Tag Heuer!

A good choice, I have always thought that Longines is elegant, classic and that it has known how to adapt to the times with a multitude of models, playing with machinery from quartz to automatic machinery. Last Christmas I noticed one with ceramics that I liked a lot and I almost fell but I discarded it to keep saving, you know my theory.
By the way Javier do not suffer that we will always follow you, at least me. The looks cannot be lost.
    Greetings and continue like this

Thanks for the compliment David. I think the model you are referring to is the Longines Conquest, with a black or gray ceramic bezel. It's a good watch too, but don't be sorry you didn't buy it because it has a flaw in its design. garrafal that if you are curious I can comment in private.

Greetings, and thanks for the opinion again!

Hello Carlos, can you please tell me what is the fault that the Longines Conquest watch has, is that I wanted to buy it and I read your comment and I was curious.
      Thank you!!!

Carlos, I see that you are new and also an expert watchmaker, we will have to start putting you to the test! xD More than a test is to ask your advice ... 🙂

I'm looking for a watch, see if you can give me a hand. The problem is that I have a very thin wrist (16 cm), and a small budget, no more than 250 euros. Can you think of an interesting option?

I haven't worn a watch in years because I am fortunate not to need it and I am not involved in the world at all.

    Thank you

Hello Jorge, well look, it would be a pleasure to help you, but first you have to clarify a few vital points about what you are looking for: sporty, classic, quartz, mechanical, metal bracelet, rubber or leather strap ... give me a hint and let's look Something that although it may not seem like it, you can get interesting things with that budget.

    A greeting!

    Hi Carlos,

As I see that you are the new expert watchmaker on the web, I would like to ask you for some advice. (this is going to look like an office)

The same thing happens to Jorge, I have a small wrist and I am looking for a watch, about 300 euros or a little more, of the style that you have put from Longines with the chocolate strap (rubber or leather). I am profane in the matter, if you can propose something to me I would appreciate it.

    Regards and thanks in advance.

I like the rejoj ... as I am not going to like it, if it is the Carrera camouflaged ...

Isn't that a too obvious copy?

    What do you think?

  7.   Carlos said

Well, how much commotion I see here xDD. I go in parts:

-Nacho, unfortunately I also have a small wrist, that's where my love for this was born, having to try on so much and so varied to choose what suits me best, so you're in luck. allow yourself some very basic Hamilton (they are very good and have a lot of quality), but if the look you are looking for is similar to the Longines, it is very clear that you have to go try Tissot and Certina, they both belong to the same group, qualities and prices are similar. Personally, I invite you to try the Tissot Prs516 in its chrono version, with a perforated brown leather strap ... it's very nice. Look at them and tell me, ok?

    All the best

  8.   Carlos said

-Fernando, I think that the assessment you are making is very lightly, and quite typical also even among the connoisseurs of watches.

The aesthetic resemblance between the two watches is inevitable because both have Racing inspiration, and by not modifying the Valjoux the 3 subdials occupy the same place in both models (and in almost any Valjoux that you come across out there). a black background ... and that's it. Once you have them in your hand, they have nothing to do with it. The accusation that Longines has copied the design is very frequent, but in my personal opinion it is unfounded. In fact, the Longines has a Red button to activate the chrono that he has now tagged "copied" and put on all his new Carrera models.

As for which is better, a matter of taste: Tag has applied indexes and Longines painted, it is the only thing that I think the Carrera improves on the Vitesse. In fact, the back of the Vitesse is much better finished, its pushbuttons and crown are much safer, (more protected and threaded), its armys are light years away from the Tag, and it even has better sealing than the current Carrera, which have now been renewed to also have 100 meters of resistance "like" the Longines.

I think that nobody copies anyone, they simply satisfy the market demand and compete, but I appreciate your doubt, and your opinion.

A hug and sorry for the parchment.

Well, for the record, neither Longines nor anyone else pays me in any way for this valuation, unfortunately all my watches come out of the sweat from my brow ... but I really like to study the "real" value (to call it somehow, because no watch is worth what it costs) of each piece, and in that Tag, it inflates the prices a lot. It is something similar to what happens to me with Hublot, I do not understand watches of 8 thousand euros that assemble machinery exactly the same as those of one of a thousand euros.

Thanks again for the predisposition Carlos. In principle I do not have any preference about sports or classic, although I am 21 years old so something very very classic does not apply either. The only preference in principle is that it be a leather or rubber strap.

  11.   Carlos said

Well, then I tell you exactly the same thing as Nacho, look at yourself, especially the Tissot t-race collection, you will hardly find something that fills you, depending on how you look at it, tell me, and if you are not completely convinced, we will continue looking in brands less generalists I have recommended those two because they are usually present in most stores.

Greetings colleagues, thank you all for your opinions.

  12.   Carlos said

By the way, I just noticed a mistake in the post I wrote you, Jorge. I was referring to the Tissot T-sport collection, which includes the T-race model and other more options. When you have touched something, tell me .

Greetings and sorry because sometimes I write fast and from memory, and I get confused.

Hmmm I'm afraid the comment hasn't been posted.

I was commenting that following your advice Carlos I took a look at the Tissot and Certina models.

From Tissot I liked the PRC 200, specifically these two versions:

    http://www.tissot.ch/?mod_collections/action_getsubfamilies/colid_0002/famid_0034/refid_T17_1_526_52
    http://www.tissot.ch/?mod_collections/action_getsubfamilies/colid_0002/famid_0034/refid_T17_1_516_32

    And from Certina these two:

    http://www.certina.com/Collection/Gent-Quartz-Collection/DS-Podium/C536-7029-42-69.aspx?pi=0
    http://www.certina.com/Collection/Gent-Quartz-Collection/DS-Podium-Unisex/C001-217-27-057-00.aspx?pi=0

So yesterday afternoon I stopped by ECI to see them in person. And the truth is that it was easier than I thought: they had neither of the two Certina models, and only the one with the black dial from Tissot. In any case it was my first choice so I ended up buying it, it was 265 euros.

So thank you very much for the help Carlos 🙂

    Hi Carlos,

I just wanted to thank you for the advice, I went to look at Certina and Tissot watches and you were right, they are a great success.

I kept a Certina DS PODIUM model in chocolate color, I also liked the Tissot ones and taking advantage of the fact that I have to make a gift I took the PRC 200 Chronograh model. As they say "I killed two birds with one stone" 🙂

I said, thank you very much.

  15.   Carlos said

Of course, I am glad that you found what you were looking for, that Certina is a marvel at a very contained price, and the Tissot well what to tell you, a classic of this firm; But what really puts me in a good mood is having helped you.

    A greeting!

  16.   Carlos said

Uups !! I could swear your comment wasn't there before Jorge! As I told Nacho, I am very happy to have been able to help you both, although it really was easy. In the middle segment of quality-price, Tissot and Certina are practically unrivaled. In addition, the fact of belonging to the largest watchmaking group established in the world today, opens the door to all markets, since they are present in any watchmaking, whatever its level of collections.

    Greetings, guys!

Hi Carlos, I had also obtained a longines conquest.
This is not ceramic and also, to my regret, it is not automatic since it is thicker and more expensive.
I would like to know where is the problem that you say this watch has, because I am about to buy it and I would not like to lose the illusion now that I am on time.
A watch that will cost me a lot to pay.
    thanks for helping us

    Good afternoon:

I am in the same situation as Ricardisk; I was initially interested in a Tag (Carrera… Aquaracer ..) but well, by chance I saw this Longines Sport Collection Conquest, the one with the ceramic visel… the truth for my taste is much more beautiful and I particularly like it with the rubber strap….

I don't know about watches but I have tried to read on forums and ask in stores and I have not found any fault other than this one that »Carlos» mentions… I asked for the watch because… he brings it from Barcelona…

If you can please clarify this of FALLO GARRAFAL .. before buying this watch ...

I would really appreciate it ...

    Thousand Thanks

    Ivan
