Keys to choosing a laptop

mini notebook

Both notebooks, netbooks, laptops or super phones as well as PDAs or iPhones give us something that other devices do not give us: portability.

Having the possibility of taking work, study things or just having fun wherever we want is something that many of us want.

But when buying one of these devices ... what are the things that we must take into account so as not to make mistakes? This is a simple, but great question. Every day, technology is renewed, therefore, below we will give you the various qualities taking into account your needs and the advantages of each team.

There are those who say that there is not a big difference between a laptop and a notebook, but the big difference is in the size. Laptops are slightly larger than notebooks. Then, with the advancement of technology, came netbooks, which are the smallest computers on the market.

  • Laptops: They are the most powerful, the largest, the most comfortable for jobs that require a large screen, but they are also the heaviest. There are 17 inches or more. They have a lot of disk and memory capacity. They are the closest thing to desktop computers in terms of ease of use, speed, and performance. They have so much capacity that a game fanatic can use it without problem.
  • laptops: There is not much difference with the previous ones in terms of criteria, but they are smaller to transport. Their screens are around 13 or 15 inches. They also have high performance, but we also have the cheapest ones whose performance and speed are lower. In any case, these laptops are ideal for those who have to be on the move and need to work with heavier programs, watch movies, etc.
  • netbook: Here we find the maximum in portability. Super light and small. They rescue the lost spirit of the famous "Libretto" (for a small book) by Toshiba, when notebooks were intended to be the smallest, but today the definition of screen and power are much better. Even so, these little girls have a main destiny ... to live on Internet applications. That's why they all come ready to use Wi-Fi. This is checking your email account, chatting and using a word processor or spreadsheet without expecting great comfort because its small 8 to 10-inch screens. They have as against that their keyboard is smaller and the smaller, the more discs. Some even use an unconventional hard disk (solid state memory) that is not a traditional disk but like the one with a pendrive so to speak.

What do we have to take into account according to our need? We return to the important questions.

  1. Our pocket. Here notebooks and netbooks fight for the position, but they also sacrifice power at a lower price. While netbooks are the cheapest in comparison, let's assume they don't have CD or DVD players.
  2. Performance and speed. If we want to work with design programs or that require all the resources of our laptop as well as a large screen, the laptops will be chosen. Memory and processor are critical issues that greatly drive the price of a laptop. Today we have to think that 1GB of RAM is already running low, especially for new versions of operating systems such as Windows Vista or 7 and OSX 10.5 for Macs (which come with 2GB as a base from the factory). The Atom, Celeron from Intel and Sempron processors from AMD are the cheapest versions but also with the lowest speed and performance. The rest of the processors increase speed and performance, but if we need speed, we will have to invest a little more of our pocket in this.
  3. Capacity. Notebook drives are much cheaper nowadays and the capacity reaches 320GB (or 500GB in the latest more advanced models but this also consumes the battery in a second). Netbooks lose in this category and win the others.
  4. Weight. If we need to carry the computer everywhere, we have to consider how much it weighs, let's not only think about the laptop alone, but with the power adapters, bag and others. The sites worry about losing the weight of their machines but these things keep adding to their extra kilos and only very few brands offer these lightweight things. Obviously, here netbooks and 17-inch laptops win by far, we only take them into account if they come in a bag with wheels!
  5. Autonomy. I have saved the most important of a laptop for last if it boasts of being one. You have to see how long the battery lasts. Here they play several things at the same time. If we use the processor and the DVD reader a lot (see a video for example) we will run out of battery very quickly. A laptop with a very fast processor also consumes more battery. The batteries say how many "cells" they have and this is the autonomy capacity that they will also give us.

We must make a comparison and see according to our needs which is the one that fits what we are going to use and what we want to be more important over the rest.
