How does the solar car work?

Stella

The interest of the Energy solar is to take advantage of sunlight to transform it into electrical energy. To carry out this modification, photovoltaic cells (solar panels) are used, which are responsible for transforming the photons (light) in electrons (electricity).

In 2014, a group of Dutch students surprised everyone during the World Solar Challenge, presenting a solar car capable of transporting 4 people for 600 kilometers in a row. Until now, the cars present in Australia were about to prototypes that they had very little autonomy, and could not transport more than one person. Stella (the name of this car) became the first vehicle solar familiar of the world.

In addition to this, Stella It is one of the lightest cars since it weighs only 380 kg, the chassis is made with aluminum and carbon fiber, very light materials, which favors the speed and the autonomy of the vehicle. Solar panels are installed on the roof and hood of the car to make the most of the Energy solar.

Stella can autonomously travel 600 km on a single charge, and also consumes less during this journey Energy than what the solar panel has generated, and can store the surplus in a battery that powers the car when there is no light solar.
